The new iPhone ads

In case you haven't seen them, here they are.

Of course it looks awesome. Would we expect anything less? But questions plague me:

1. How do you keep the screen from getting seriously scratched up?
2. Do I really want to switch to AT&T/Cingular?
3. Do I really need all of that stuff on my phone?

The real question to me is: how much will the sercie plan cost? I've heard 3 grand for 2 years, but some folks think less.

That's service plan - not sercie plan. This seems to be a common enough typo, if you ask Google...

the article mentions nothing about my questions...unless I just scanned it too quickly and posted a completely unwarranted comment.

Serious design flaw #523: Dialing by touch is not possible with this baby. That's why the number 5 button on cell phones has a raised edge or a braille-like bump. Ain't no bump when you got a touch-screen. WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW, WOZ!

I thought the article addressed question #3, taking issue with characterizing the iPhone (despite the name) as merely a "phone".

Anyway, I think I found a way for Pete to save money on an iPhone:

On question #1, there won't be any contractual protection against iPhone damage:

"No insurance through Cingular/At&T
"their fault" coverage through Apple

"NO ACCIDENTAL PROTECTION at all

"WTF?!? No accidental protection? These are phones! Phones fall, phones break, phones get ran over.... And I'm going to carry around a phone that I paid 500 bucks for, without any sort of discount, with a 2 year contract and no protection at all if it "falls down and goes boom.""

Looks like Apple has taken care of your question #1 and increased the battery life...

“We’ve also upgraded iPhone’s entire top surface from plastic to optical-quality glass for superior scratch resistance and clarity."
